Stracci Pizza, a 20-foot trailer converted into a curbside pizzeria, is opening its first brick-and-mortar restaurant in the former Nectar Coffee and Wine Bistro spot in Del Ray.
In 2020, chef and owner Thomas Cardarelli and his wife, Annalisa, opened a food truck specializing in Roman-style pizza, their signature stracciatella cheese, seasonal specials and hand-baked bread.
They found a space at 106 Hume Ave., and Cardarelli said Del Ray is the right foundation to create “an inviting, friendly, and fun neighborhood restaurant.”
“We could immediately see the potential," he said. "It not only offered us a location for our food truck but also the opportunity to grow. We love the Del Ray neighborhood and live close by. There is such a vibrant community of small businesses in the area, and we are proud to now be a part of it."
The new restaurant’s menu will continue to center on Roman-style pies, seasonal appetizers like their spring stracciatella and desserts, but will be expanding the variety of items offered. They will be producing more bread in-house, as well as offering more weekly specials.
Currently, the food truck is located and serving food in the parking lot of the new restaurant, and it will continue to house the pizza oven, at least for the immediate future.
