Arcell Mitchell II knows how hard it is to be in the military, having served himself.
Now, the new owner of Samurai Hibatchi Sushi & Bar, at 4603 Duke St., will be donating a portion of proceeds to mental health programs for veterans in June.
"Eating and creating enjoyable sushi experiences is my new way of serving the community. Many of our customers are veterans and this is just one way we can support our neighbors, colleagues and friends,” Mitchell said. As part of the restaurant’s campaign, Mitchell hopes to help bring awareness to post traumatic stress disorder.
Mitchell completed eight years of military service, including two years in Iraq between 2008-2010. He's a native of Crystal Springs, Mississippi, and after a brief career in information technology, he changed careers to hospitality. He bought the Alexandria restaurant in 2022, keeping the name established by the original owners more than a decade ago.
International Sushi Day is June 18. That day, the restaurant at the Foxchase shopping center will release its new summer sushi towers.
The restaurant serves hibatchi, sushi, sashimi, bento boxes and more. For more information about the restaruant, visit bshsb.com.
