Alexandria Restaurant Partners is proposing to open a 5,000-square foot restaurant on Alexandria's waterfront at 300 Strand St. and 314 Strand St., as part of Robinson Landing, a luxury condominium and townhome development. The restaurant proposal goes before the City Planning Commission next month.
ENR MidAtlantic puts the entire Robinson Landing mixed-use project, which covers a full city block and includes 70 condos and 26 townhomes, at $185 million. The entire project is expected to be completed by spring 2020. The restaurant is a piece of the puzzle.
The restaurant proposal calls for one large dining establishment to be located in "Building 1," offering charcoal-grilled seafood and steaks and a full bar; there are also plans for a more casual companion cafe, as well as an extensive outdoor pier restaurant. Plans call for valet parking.
The main 5,000-square foot restaurant will seat 184 inside with patio seating for 83. At the pier, there will be seating for 34 at the bar, 70 in the lounge area and 128 for dining for total seating of 232.
A 2,000-square foot cafe in another building will offer indoor and outdoor seating for a total of 64 seats; the menu at the cafe will include sushi. The cafe space was originally approved for retail space. The cafe will be open all day and is also described in the proposal as a coffee shop.
It's expected the 4,000-square foot pier restaurant will attract about 375 patrons per day with the most during the 5-9 p.m. dinner hour. Food preparation for the pier restaurant will take place in the main restaurant and possibly in an airstream trailer or something similar on the pier.
The menu at the main restaurant is expected to be somewhat similar to ARP's Majestic restaurant, at 901 King St., according to the application. The eatery will offer an extensive appetizer list and wine selections. TVs will not be a part of the entertainment; the restaurant will feature background music and there may occasionally be un-amplified live music.
Proposed hours for the restaurants are:
- Monday-Thursday: 11 a.m. to midnight
- Friday: 11 a.m. to 1 a.m. (kitchen closes at midnight)
- Saturday: 10 a.m. to 1 a.m. (kitchen closes at midnight)
- Sunday: 10 a.m. to 11 p.m.
The cafe/coffee shop hours are proposed to be 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
