As the federal government shutdown drags on, Alexandria restaurants are stepping up to help out residents impacted by furloughs, layoffs and SNAP benefit confusion. Here’s a look at the restaurants that are offering special deals:
- a.loung+bar: Government employees can enjoy 20% off at a.cafe and a.lounge at AKA Hotel in Alexandria, through Nov. 14. Stop by a.cafe for coffee, breakfast, or lunch, or unwind at a.lounge with cocktails and dinner. Show your government ID to redeem—available for the duration of the shutdown.
- Alexandria Restaurant Partners restaurants: (Ada’s on the River, Barca, Mia’s Italian Kitchen, The Majestic, Royal Restaurant, Theismann’s, Vola’s Dockside Grill): 50% off food and non-alcoholic drinks to federal employees with government I.D.
- Bagel Uprising: Offering 20% off for furloughed federal workers with federal I.D. (Through Dec. 31.)
- Bastille: Offering 25% off for to-go orders. Place an online to-go order through their website: bastillerestaurant.com. Use the code SHUTDOWN at checkout. No I.D. needed.
- Chalkboard Wings & BBQ: Offering free meals to furloughed workers and their families (as well as anyone who has been laid off or is fearing being laid off or who have lost government assistance) on Tuesdays until the shutdown ends in collaboration with The Kingstowne Communion. The menu changes each week.
- Honeygrow, (Two locations: 7698 Richmond Highway and 6464 Lincolinia Road).To receive a 20% discount, federal employees must pay at the register and present a valid government-issued I.D.
- Paisano’s: 269 S. Van Dorn 30% off all pizzas with the promo code “TOGETHER” during the shutdown, requiring a valid government ID at the time of purchase.
- Pork Barrel BBQ and Sweet Fire Donna’s of the HomeGrown Restaurant Group: Free BBQ pork or chicken sandwich, Monday through Friday with government ID.
- Taco Bamba: One free taco with purchase of any taco, in-store orders; one free taco per guest wit valid federal ID ordering in person at the counter. Limited to one free taco per person per visit.
