A La Lucia, a popular Old Town North restaurant in business for decades, is closing. The last night of service is New Year's Eve.
The restaurant opened in 2003 at 315 Madison St. and offered family-style Italian dishes. It quickly became a neighborhood staple, and customers have posted multiple social media posts saying how much the restaurant will be missed.
The restaurant is one of several businesses on that block that are being displaced by redevelopment. Property owner Carr will replace the commercial building known as Montgomery Center with hundreds of residential units, retail and arts components on the ground floor, and a large underground parking garage. Currently, Montgomery Center takes up the entire 2-acre block surrounded by Montgomery, Madison, North Royal and North Fairfax streets.
In other restaurant news:
Café du Soleil will be opening a second location in early 2025. The coffee shop and café at 215 S. Union St. will open its second location in the former Abyssinia Market at 720 Jefferson St. Abyssinia Market closed in the summer after eight years in business.
Greenheart Juice Shop is moving into Old Town. The Washington Business Journal reported that the venue, which sells smoothies, cold-pressed juices, bowls, cleanse programs and more, is moving into Old Town. The specific location has not been announced yet. Greenheart Juice Shop has five other locations in Northern Virginia (the closest is in Arlington at 2016 Wilson Blvd.) and one in the District.
