Popular pizza restaurant Pupatella will open a location at 700 Slaters Lane soon in Alexandria, after first filing paperwork with Alexandria two years ago.
With roots in Arlington, Pupatella began its journey thanks to Enzo Algarme, a Naples native. Steeped in the traditions of Neapolitan pizza-making from a young age, he brought his passion and expertise to the United States.
Frustrated by the lack of authentic Neapolitan pizza locally, he decided to create his own. What started as a modest food truck in 2007 quickly gained a loyal following, prompting the opening of the first brick-and-mortar location in Arlington in 2010. Algarme's commitment to genuine Neapolitan techniques and ingredients laid the foundation for Pupatella's success.
Pupatella is renowned for its VPN-certified Neapolitan pizzas, a prestigious certification from the Associazione Verace Pizza Napoletana that ensures adherence to strict traditional methods. Beyond their signature pizzas, cooked in blistering 900-degree wood-fired ovens, the menu also features a selection of antipasti, including fresh burrata, arancini, and meatballs.
They offer a variety of classic and creative pizza toppings, always prioritizing high-quality, often imported, ingredients like San Marzano tomatoes and mozzarella di bufala. Completing the Italian experience, Pupatella also serves salads, calzones, and a rotating selection of desserts.
