Longtime Alexandria restaurateurs "Mango Mike" and wife Donna Anderson announced Wednesday that they plan to close their restaurant Whiskey & Oyster, located in the Carlyle District.
The restaurant family has owned and managed some 15 restaurants during their years in the City. Here's what Mike Anderson had to say in a post on Instagram:
"Good Afternoon folks! Mango Mike here with Sweet Fire Donna in Carlyle, in the beautiful Whiskey & Oyster restaurant.
As you know, we opened here in 2019 just a few months before COVID hit.
It's been a little bit of a struggle since then.
So our lease has coming up for renewal and we have decided not to renew the lease here at Whiskey & Oyster, so we'll be closing the doors here at the end of February, February 28.
We've had a great run here, we've been blessed with some terrific staff, a great management team and some very loyal customers over the years. We appreciate that and we appreciate everybody's support.
Since 1979, when we opened Shooter McGee's, we've had 15 different restaurants in the City of Alexandria. Some have been great, some have not been so great.
This is been another chapter in our restaurant life in Alexandria and we're just gonna move on. If you've got a gift certificate from Whiskey & Oyster, you can certainly use them at Sweet Fire Donna's down the street and Tequila & Taco, so feel free to do that.
And again, we'll see you around town, we've got three great places in Del Ray: Pork Barrel BBQ, Holy Cow and the pop-up which is soon to be a dive bar.
Donna and I are going to be around. This is just another chapter in our restaurant life in Alexandria. Again, thanks everybody for the support and we'll see you around town."
