Like many restaurants in Old Town, Pizzeria Paradiso closed when the coronavirus pandemic reached Alexandria.
Unfortunately, the beloved pizza restaurant will not be reopening, the owner announced this week.
The Old Town location was Pizzeria Paradiso's third location. It opened in 2010 at 124 King St. and had a devoted following of pizza and craft beer enthusiasts.
After closing at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic on a temporary basis, unsuccessful lease negotiations forced owner and chef Ruth Gresser to permanently close the location.
The other locations, including Dupont Circle, Georgetown and Spring Valley in the District, and Hyattsville, Maryland, will remain open.
To give thanks and say a final goodbye to the Old Town community, Pizzeria Paradiso will host a farewell walk-by event in front of the King Street location on Sunday, Oct. 4 at 1 p.m. Pizza, T-shirts and other Paradiso souvenirs will be distributed while supplies last.
If you need your Paradiso fix, once per month Pizzeria Paradiso will either host “Pizza Night” at Port City Brewing or provide DIY Pizzeria Paradiso pizza kits will be available for pick-up at the brewery's West End Alexandria location. Each $25 kit will include all the ingredients needed to make your own Paradiso pizza at home, detailed instructions from Gresser, plus a Port City six-pack. Reservations for the first Pizza Night at Port City on Thursday, Oct. 15 will be available one week in advance and will be available on the Port City website.
