Shirlington Village's restaurant scene is heating up. Chiko recently opened its first Virginia location there, offering up its Chinese-Korean fare in a fast-casual setting at 4040 Campbell Ave., (where DAK Chicken was previously located).
Also coming to Shirlington: Astro Beer Hall, where Capital City Brewing, 4001 Campbell Ave., was previously located. Look for it to open in Summer 2022. Here's more about the new eatery, from a press release:
Elliot Spaisman and Jeff Halpern, owner of Astro Doughnuts & Fried Chicken, are teaming up with Geoff Dawson and Peter Bayne's creative bar and restaurant development group Tin Shop to launch the Astro Beer Hall in the Village of Shirlington.
Open all day, the two-level beer hall will serve doughnuts and coffee in the morning and serve beer with lunch and dinner offerings. In addition to serving Astro's made-to-order cake doughnuts, the new restaurant will offer an expanded menu, including fried chicken, sandwiches, salads, and bar snacks. The bar will serve a variety of cocktails, frozen drinks, and local draft beer drafts from 20 tap lines.
And here's more about the restaurant, Chiko, that recently opened in Shirlington: It got off the ground four years ago, when it first opened on Capitol Hill. The restaurants (Shirlington is one of several locations) are owned by a hospitality group called the Fried Rice Collective. The owners are Danny Lee and Scott Drewno.
The Shirlington location, open daily from 5-9 p.m. offers dine-in and delivery through UberEats and DoorDash. Diners order their meal after scanning a QR code, which takes them to a check-out site online.
Heads up though if you plan to visit in the next few days. As of Dec. 26, Chiko is closed for in-door dining due to a resurgence in COVID: "With the health and safety of our staff and customers in mind, we have made the decision to close indoor dining at all Chiko locations for a few days. All of your favorite dishes can be ordered at http://MyChiKo.com."
If you plan to order: Top-sellers on their menu include "orange-ish chicken," pork and kimchi potstickers and soy-glazed brisket.
