A new restaurant called Finn & Fire is expected to open at 111 N. Pitt St. in Old Town Alexandria, according to paperwork filed with the City.
Its Instagram account notes it will open in January 2026.
Finn & Fire Chef/Owner Ghazal Amir is also owner of Crab Cab restaurant, 6328A Richmond Highway, which opened Oct. 17, 2022. The eatery began as a food truck in 2013. In addition to its location on Richmond Highway, there is another brick and mortar location in Capitol Heights, Md.
Amir’s culinary repertoire includes unique crab and shrimp dishes. The eatery has earned four stars on Yelp from 373 reviews. One of the dishes often mentioned in reviews is The Dominator. The menu describes it as a crab cake sandwich, firecracker shrimp salad loaded with crab and salmon fries and seasoned fries with signature dipping sauce.
Amir, a self-taught chef and graduate of Alexandria City High School (then T.C. Williams) told Northern Virginia Magazine two years ago that her two sons and two daughters often help out at her businesses and that she hopes to build a legacy for her children.
Architect Scott McGhee of JMc Architects in Alexandria, is working on updating the facade of the new restaurant space, formerly home to Kismet restaurant. Kismet closed its doors in May in Alexandria.
JMc Architects has worked on other Alexandria restaurant design projects including Bollywood Masala and Connect & Sip Cafe.
The proposed work for Finn & Fire includes replacement of existing glass/aluminum doors with wood doors, replacement of sconce light fixtures, building a decorative wood surround around the existing glazing and replacing corrugated metal panels with flat metal panels.
New signage will replace existing signage and decorative elements such as stones and small planters are planned.
Alexandria's Board of Architectural Review will review the proposed changes at its meeting Nov. 5 at City Hall Council Chambers.
