Alexandria has a thing for coffee shops.
Sociologist Ray Oldenburg called them "third places" — the spots that aren't home or work but where a city's real life happens. By that measure, Alexandria is doing just fine.
With more than 20 cafés already pouring across Old Town, Del Ray and beyond — and at least two more on the way — the city's caffeine map keeps getting denser by the season.
The latest pin: Life Alive Organic Café, the Boston-born plant-forward favorite known for pulling Intelligentsia espresso into wellness-leaning signatures like its Vanilla Tahini Latte, Banana Oat Cold Brew, and date-caramel lattes finished with black sea salt.
The 400 King St. location in Old Town is expected to welcome its first customers to a preview on June 7, according to a company Instagram post.
"A little sneak peek of what’s coming to Alexandria next month. Our team is working hard to get every detail just right, and behind these walls, bold bowls, housemade sauces and scratch-made everything are almost ready for you. Before the doors open, everyone is welcome to come and see what we’ve been working on at our Patio Preview Party Sunday, June 7th. Free samples, live music, fun prizes and more. Invite drops soon. See you soon Alexandria!"
