Former Charlie's on the Avenue
An administrative special use permit filed with the City by Alexandria Restaurant Partners (ARP) last week indicated that the former Charlie’s on the Avenue, located at 1501 Mount Vernon Ave. will be replaced by an ARP restaurant.
Charlie’s on the Avenue opened in fall 2018 and was a casual, family-friendly restaurant with several large screen televisions. The restaurant closed earlier this year on Feb. 2. The owners, Jeremy Barber and Justus Frank, continue to operate Live Oak Restaurant and The Garden.
The name used on the permit is Joe’s Kitchen, but that may not be the final name of the new restaurant. Scott Shaw, a partner with ARP, revealed to Alexandria Living Magazine that they are still throwing around what exactly the new restaurant will be and what it will be called.
“We love the neighborhood, we love the building. It was for sale, so we bought it. We’re not actually quite sure what we’ll do with it yet. Right now we’re just kind of noodling ideas, we’re looking, thinking, 'What’s not in Del Ray that should be in Del Ray?'” Shaw said.
Shaw said that ARP is busy opening their newest dining destination, Ada's on the River near Robinson Landing along Alexandria's waterfront. The new restaurant in Del Ray will probably open some time over the summer.
