After more than 7 years, Myron Mixon's Pitmaster BBQ in Alexandria has closed.
The restaurant will be replaced by a similarly-themed restaurant at the same 218 N. Lee Street address called Mystic BBQ & Grill.
According to the new restaurant's special use permit application, there will be no changes to the restaurant aside from a renaming and some minor cosmetic changes. "It will continue to serve BBQ with some additional items similar to what was on their menu the first couple of years they were open," the application states.
Myron Mixon's Pitmaster BBQ is still in the region — the BBQ champion opened a new location on Dec. 28 near the Dunn Loring-Merrifield Metro station.
Mixon said in an interview with Alexandria Living Magazine in 2021 that he loved the "reserved" feel of Old Town.
The new restaurant does not have a website or social media presence yet. The new owner, Alexandria company R+M Restaurants, has not announced an opening date.
