Misha's, one of Alexandria's locally owned and much-loved coffee shops, opened its second location this weekend at 6 Prince St., near Old Town's waterfront.
"I love the location, I was setting up this morning, right at sunrise," said Manager Stuart Robinson who started working at Misha's while he was a student at West Potomac High School in 2008, the year he graduated. Saturday morning, he set up signs as the sun was rising, near the water, to let walkers know where they could find their morning coffee.
While a bit smaller than the 917 King Street location, also in Old Town, the new coffee house features seating on two floors.
The second floor opens onto a rooftop deck with seating and umbrellas and views of surrounding Old Town and the waterfront. Robinson said he hopes to possibly add sidewalk seating in the future.
The popular coffee shop with the orange cups first opened on South Patrick Street in 1991 in Old Town and expanded there before moving to its King Street location.
Owners Misha Von Elmendorf and Andrea Seward keep the community coffeehouse vibe going with eclectic music playing and original artwork on the walls, not to mention their coffee and menu items which are sourced locally.
Pastries are delivered fresh from Hawthorne Bakery from just across the river in Prince George's County, Md. as well as from Good Company Doughnuts and Acme Pie Company in Arlington and Kiwi Pie in Alexandria.
Robinson said he expects to start serving beer and wine as early as next week. Check out the wine offerings at right.
The coffee shop opens at 6 a.m. and plans call for it to stay open until 8 p.m. but for the time-being, it will close at 6 p.m.
