Karma Modern Indian, a Michelin-recognized destination for fine Indian cuisine in downtown Washington, D.C., is opening its sister restaurant in Old Town Alexandria this week.
Take-out is already available, and dine-in eating will start this Wednesday, Nov. 10. The restaurant will be open for dinner Wednesday and Thursday evenings, and lunch and dinner Friday through Sunday.
Kismet Modern Indian, at 111 N. Pitt St. is open this week and is the "destiny" (the definition of kismet) of Karma founding partner Sachin Mahajan and Karma Executive Chef Ajay Kumar.
“We’re delighted to be in a position to build on the success of our first endeavor and bring to Kismet Modern Indian the same commitment to excellence that our customers have come to know and love at Karma,” Mahajan said earlier this year.
Early reviews have been positive.
The restaurant was formerly home to BurgerFi and before that, Ireland's Own for more than three decades, but Mahajan and Kumar have completely reinvented the space. (See photos on the Kismet website here.)
