Since opening its doors in the fall of 2022, Kismet Modern Indian has become a beloved dining destination in the heart of Old Town Alexandria, at 111 N. Pitt St.
Kismet Modern Indian’s commitment to the Old Town community extends beyond its culinary offerings. From sourcing local ingredients to partnering with area businesses and organizations, Kismet embraces the rich heritage and vibrant spirit of Alexandria.
“Old Town is more than a location for us—it’s a community we’re proud to serve,” said Sachin Mahajan, owner/operator of Kismet Modern Indian. A longtime Alexandria resident raising a family in the area, Sachin is deeply connected to the neighborhood and committed to making Kismet a cornerstone of the local dining scene.
As part of its ongoing efforts to enhance the guest experience, Kismet Modern Indian is thrilled to introduce its new General Manager Marc Meijer.

Marc Meijer, the new general manager at Kismet Old Town
Meijer, who previously served in a management role at Kismet Modern Indian in Richmond, brings a wealth of experience and a passion for hospitality to the Alexandria location. His relocation to Old Town reflects his enthusiasm for the area and his dedication to fostering meaningful connections with guests and the broader community.
Meijer has an extensive background in the culinary and hospitality industries, having previously worked for Chef José Andrés and Think Food Group, where he honed his expertise in fine dining and restaurant operations.
In addition to his leadership experience, Meijer has worked as a wine representative, developing strong knowledge of wine pairings and recommendations. His deep understanding of both cuisine and wine allows him to offer guests an elevated dining experience tailored to their preferences.
As he settles into Alexandria, Meijer is eager to build community ties, collaborating with local businesses and residents to make Kismet Modern Indian an even more integral part of the Old Town dining landscape.
“I’m excited to call Alexandria my new home and to bring my experiences from Richmond to this vibrant dining scene,” he said. “Kismet Modern Indian has always been about creating memorable experiences, and I’m honored to continue that tradition here in Old Town.”
The restaurant is part of Karma Food Group, led by award-winning Chef Ajay Kumar, whose innovative approach to Indian cuisine has garnered widespread acclaim. Karma Modern Indian, the group’s flagship location in Washington, D.C., holds the prestigious Michelin Bib Gourmand designation, underscoring its reputation for excellence.
