Café 44
Café 44 is still going strong and open during extensive renovations, but the restaurant will reopen as Jula's on the Potomac in June.
The restaurant released a virtual tour of the new space here.
"The doors to Jula’s on the Potomac will open in June 2023 with the existing Café 44 indoor space simultaneously closing for renovations. The waterfront balcony and terrace will remain open, and will boast additional seating, new lighting and a new sound system," according to the company.
Café 44 is adding about 7,500 sq. ft. to its footprint at 44 Canal Center Plaza.
The addition will include a raw bar and charcuterie bar in addition to a renovation of the current space. There will be more seating, space for private events and even better views of the Potomac River, according to the restaurant.
When the changes are complete, Café 44 will be called Jula's on the Potomac, named after a member of the founder's family.
"Phase One construction (the expansion space) should be complete by mid-summer, with Phase Two (the existing space) complete by early fall. Café 44 will remain open during Phase One construction, with the only visibility to the customer being surface protection in the freight elevator and elevator lobby. Once Phase One is complete and open to the public, Phase Two construction will begin. Once Phase Two is complete, the dividing wall will come down and the two spaces will join as one."
