Time magazine calls it "the best ice cream in America." You'll get a chance to try it for yourself Dec. 19, when Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams holds the grand opening for its new Old Town Alexandria scoop shop.
The shop, located at 102 S. Patrick St., will offer free ice cream and swag for the first 50 people in line at the grand opening, set from 7-11 p.m.
Founder Jeni Britton Bauer, who started the nationwide business in 2002, will be on hand for the opening. The business is headquartered in Columbus, Ohio.
Britton Bauer is author of three cookbooks about ice cream. Her first cookbook, Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams at Home, was a New York Times best seller and earned a James Beard Foundation Award.
The company partnered with 505 Design of Charlotte, N.C. and Asana to create a one-story, 1,384-square foot shop that will include a waffle cone-making station display.
The menu includes classic fan favorites like Brambleberry Crisp and Brown Butter Almond Brittle, dairy-free flavors like Texas Sheet Cake and Roasted Peanut Butter and Strawberry Jam and seasonal flavors like Pumpkin Cake Roll. The company only uses whole ingredients and dairy from grass-pastured cows.
The location was formerly home to Misha's coffee shop, which opened a new location at 917 King St.
