Hypergoat Coffee Roasters will be opening a café in Alexandria this month.
Hypergoat Coffee Roasters was started by husband-and-wife duo Rodrigo Ramos (pictured at a farmers' market) and Deborah Joos. They started roasting coffee in their Southern California garage in 2015, before moving to the East Coast and launching Hypergoat Coffee Roasters here in Alexandria. They've been selling their roasted whole beans at local farmers' markets, online, and through the Made in ALX store in Old Town North.
Their café will open Friday, Aug. 9 at 215 N. Payne St. Hours will be 7 a.m. - 2 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. - 2 p.m. Saturday.
"Our mission is to bring better coffee to more people through a commitment to quality, sustainability, and education," Joos said. They will offer "high-quality, ethically sourced coffee in a charming, welcoming space where the community can gather and enjoy expertly crafted beverages."
The name Hypergoat came from an old legend. "The name 'Hypergoat' is a playful nod to the Ethiopian legend of Kaldi, a goatherd who discovered coffee when he noticed his goats became energized — or "hyper" — after eating the cherries from a certain tree. Like the legendary goats, we too found ourselves energized and inspired by the diverse universe of coffee," their website explains.
