Foxtrot
Think about the convenience store reimagined for modern times and you might picture something like Foxtrot. The Chicago-based grocery delivery chain is opening a location in Old Town Alexandria. Construction has already begun at 701 King St. on the high-end combination of corner store, café and e-commerce delivery service.
Foxtrot stores offer a carefully curated selection of locally sourced food items, meals, beer, fine wine and gifts all of which can be ordered online and delivered within a certain radius in under an hour.
According to a release from the company, "In addition to offering the everyday essentials, grab-and-go items and locally sourced favorites it's become known for, Foxtrot King & Washington will feature an expanded grocery selection and elevated culinary offerings including a charcuterie bar, house made craft sandwiches, and a full coffee bar using beans by local Vigilante Coffee. Situated prominently in the heart of Old Town, this will mark Foxtrot’s first two-story footprint complete with mezzanine seating and ample space inside for guests to sit, relax and enjoy morning or night."
Foxtrot’s new Alexandria location will be situated prominently at the intersection of King Street and Washington Street. The building was formerly leased to French café chain, Le Pain Quotidien, which declared bankruptcy and closed all of its stores during the pandemic, although Forbes reports that the chain is poised for a comeback under Aurify Brands. A few nearby locations in Clarendon, Merrifield and Washington D.C. have already reopened.
In addition to locations throughout Chicago and Dallas, Foxtrot also has two stores in Washington, D.C. in Mt. Vernon Triangle and Georgetown. According to a report by Supermarket News, Foxtrot’s expansion to Virginia is part of a larger effort to open 50 new stores within the next two years.Representatives of Foxtrot did not respond to inquiries on an opening date.
