Earlier this month, Grandaddy’s Skillet, a soul food restaurant, reopened in Pinecrest Plaza.
The new restaurant at 6544 Little River Turnpike in the Lincolnia neighborhood had opened for just a few days in November 2020 before problems with the exhaust system forced the restaurant to close for repairs.
Now, it’s open again.
The menu features family feasts (enough to feed four people) with a choice of pan fried fish, pork chops, meatloaf, baked ham and more. Sides include collard greens, grits, green beans, tossed salad, seasoned salad, candied yams and other options. Individual dishes include BBQ chicken, baked ham, chicken livers and catfish tacos.

According to the restaurant’s founder Roxanne David, the man in the logo is her grandfather, Percy Ledbetter. He grew up in Alabama and opened a soul food restaurant in Pittsburgh called Percy’s Soul Food, according to Northern Virginia Magazine.
Online reviews from both November and February are overwhelmingly positive. One Facebook reviewer wrote, “Just had some REAL SOUL FOOD!! When I tell you that these collards are the best I have had since my mother I ain't lying. Wings fried to perfection and salmon cakes [were] awesome!!! Also enjoyed the Granddaddy's sauce too. Customer service was great also which is the icing on the cake. We will be back!!”
Hours are Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays 11 a.m. – 8 p.m., Wednesdays 11 a.m. – 6 p.m. and Saturdays noon – 7 p.m. The restaurant is closed Sundays.
