Founding Farmers has announced it will open this winter in Alexandria.
The restaurant, which is majority-owned by family farmers, will be opening in the new development at Oakville Triangle, between Del Ray and Potomac Yard.
A specific opening date is not yet available, and much of the new neighborhood is still under construction. Oakville Triangle will be anchored by a new Inova Healthplex with residences and retail in the surrounding blocks.
Founding Farmers was founded by Michael Vucurevich, Dan Simons and farmer Mark Watne. Family farmers own the majority of shares in the restaurant venture, according to the company. There are three restaurants in the District (one is the offshoot called Farmers Fishers Bakers), two in Virginia (Reston and Tysons), one in Potomac, Maryland, and one in King of Prussia, Pennsylvania.
The restaurant serves food made from scratch. The extensive menu includes breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner items from bacon dates to ahi tuna. Founding Farmers boasts, "We bake our own bread, grind our own beef in-house, churn our own ice cream, and distill our own booze." The business focuses on sustainability, building only restaurants that meet high environmental certifications.
