Five Guys is celebrating National Cheeseburger Day with a buy-one, get-one-free burger deal, and it’s stretching the holiday to three days.
From today, Wednesday, Sept. 16, through Friday, Sept. 18, which is National Cheeseburger Day itself, customers who buy any burger can get a second burger of equal or lesser value free. To get the deal, enter the code BOGOBURGER at checkout, according to the company.
The deal is digital only. Orders must be placed through the Five Guys app or FiveGuys.com for pickup or delivery by Five Guys itself. The code won’t work at the counter or through third-party delivery apps.
Five Guys opened its first carry-out counter in Arlington in 1986 and is now headquartered on Duke Street in Alexandria. Read more in our interview: Five Guys Founder Jerry Murrell on 40 Years, Five Sons and Why Alexandria.
A few more details:
- Customers must be signed in to a Five Guys online account. The code can be used once per account and once per transaction.
- The code can’t be applied to orders scheduled for a future date, and it stops working at midnight local time.
- The offer is good at participating U.S. locations.
Remember February?
The last time Five Guys gave away burgers, the company wasn't ready for how popular the offer would be with customers. The chain’s 40th birthday buy-one, get-one-free offer on Feb. 17 drew bigger crowds than the company was ready for, founder Jerry Murrell told Alexandria Living Magazine this summer. Five Guys followed up with a do-over promotion in March and paid about $1.5 million in bonuses to store employees.
“It was just the opposite of a success when we did it, because we had no idea we’d get the response that we got,” Murrell said. “Computers fell down, supply, everything. We just couldn’t keep up.”
