Farmers' Markets in the City of Alexandria will be able to stay open in this time of social distancing — sort of.
City of Alexandria officials announced Tuesday that farmers' market food vendors may offer only pickup of pre-ordered food until further notice.
This direction is intended to ensure that vendors comply with the letter and spirit of Gov. Ralph Northam's executive order banning gatherings of more than 10 people, which prohibits farmers' market customers from congregating.
According to the City of Alexandria: "No food or other items may be displayed or offered for sampling or sale at the market location, and non-food vendors may not provide pickup. To reduce touching and avoid lines, vendors are encouraged to provide for prepayment of orders if possible."
Vendors who are offering pre-ordering are providing details to Visit Alexandria. Residents can see the current list of pre-order vendors at www.ALXatHome.com.
