After a soft opening this weekend, Emmy Squared will open its doors Wednesday, June 30 at 124 King St., in the heart of Old Town Alexandria, near the waterfront.
The restaurant held a "friends and family" soft opening Saturday night and will continue to give their employees a few more days practice before opening to the public, said General Manager Keith Williams.
The restaurant features high ceilings, brick walls, seating at tables, booths and a bar and a friendly and attentive staff. Customers who got a sneak peek over the weekend enjoyed items from the menu including pizza, salads, appetizers and more. Standouts included the Crispy Chicken Crunchers appetizer and the Pepperoni Pizza. The delicious pizzas come in thick square slabs on wire racks.
The pizza restaurant got its start in Williamsburg Brooklyn, N.Y. in 2016 and is part of the Pizza Loves Emily family of restaurants. The eatery was founded by Emily Hyland and executive chef Matthew Hyland with partners Howard Greenstone and Ken Levitan.
Here's a look at the menu:
- You can choose from 16 different Detroit-style pizzas on the menu— eight "red" sauces and eight "white" sauces.
- Cheesy Garlic Sticks, Eggplant Parm, Roasted Cauliflower, Crispy Chicken Crunchers, Waffle Fries.
- The eatery's popular Le Big Matt hamburger features double-stack Pat LaFrieda grass-fed beef patties, American cheese, Sammy Sauce, greens and pickles on a pretzel bun.(Sammy sauce is mayonnaise-based, but in place of ketchup, it gets its color and kick from a sweet Indonesian-style sambal.)
- There are three salads and four sandwiches on the menu including Nashville Hot Chicken Katsu Sandwich.
If you have room for dessert, you can build your own sundae or try some Zeppole, fried pizza dough dusted with cinnamon sugar, served with a side of cream cheese mousse.
