Eammon's - A Dublin Chipper and its second-floor companion speakeasy bar PX will close by the end of this month.
PX owner Todd Thrasher released a statement saying he chose not to renew the lease, citing increasing rent in Old Town Alexandria, according to Eater DC.
PX opened in 2006 and it is located directly above Eammon's at 728 King Street.
Both Eammon's and PX are associated with the Eat Good Food Group, under the leadership of award-winning Chef Cathal Armstrong. The company once owned Restaurant Eve and Society Fair. Society Fair, under different ownership, closed this month.
Earliler this year, Chef Armstrong, who runs the Eat Good Food Group, said that down the road, he hopes to open what he calls a more traditional Irish restaurant as opposed to the Americanized pubs with their “leprechauns and green beer.”
In 2018, Alexandria Living Magazine described PX as "an upscale hideaway managed by one of the region’s best bartenders, Todd Thrasher. A blue light above Eamonn’s A Dublin Chipper glows when the doors are open. Reservations are recommended to guarantee a seat amid the soft-seat cushions and dark-wood interior that harkens to the 1920s. Chase away the winter cold with a signature Hot Toddy or cocktails like the 'Feel Better and Get Well,”' a mix of Rhum Barbancourt, Irish whiskey, Thrasher’s own falernum and lime bitters."
Eater DC first reported the closure of PX. “Everyone asks me if I’m sad,” Thrasher told Eater DC this week. “I’m not sad. It was awesome. It was a great run. It was fabulous. Everything has a time and a place. Honestly, if the rent was less, if the rent hadn’t crept up over 13 or 14 years, I would still do it.”
Washingtonian was first to report that Eamonn’s will also close.
Eat Good Food Group still owns Hummingbird at Hotel Indigo. The company has recently opened new venues at The Wharf in the District and elsewhere.
