A zoning application filed with Fairfax County suggests that a Dunkin’ (formerly known as Dunkin' Donuts) location with a drive-through may be coming to 8702 Richmond Hwy. in the Woodlawn Shopping Center.
The application was filed by Forest Glen Joint Ventures, LLP to convert an existing retail site into a drive-thru restaurant. While the application does not mention Dunkin’ directly, attached renderings of signage show the Dunkin’ logo and branding.
In a cover letter, attorneys for the applicant explained: “the Applicant proposes to improve the Woodlawn Shopping Center by establishing a new restaurant with drive-through that will fulfill a need to establish quality dining options for adjacent communities while also supporting nearby tourist-oriented attractions along the Richmond Highway Corridor. The proposed neighborhood-serving use will attract local customers, not only from the surrounding residential neighborhoods and commercial businesses, but it will also provide visiting tourists with a popular, familiar dining choice.”
The site was formerly occupied by Best Smokes, a tobacco store, which has been closed for some time.
Up until now, the closest Dunkin’ locations to Woodlawn are stores at 7645 Fordson Rd., 7710 Telegraph Rd. and on Fort Belvoir.
The application is currently scheduled for review by the Fairfax County Planning Commission on March 24 and the Board of Supervisors on April 13.
