Just like a special use permit application suggested earlier this summer, DC-based Falafel Inc. is opening at 724 King St. The building was formerly occupied by Nicecream, which closed in 2021.
“Stop by and say hello, we are officially open in a few days — but rumor has it there may be some free sandwiches and merch floating around,” reads a post on the company’s Instagram account.
Ahmad Ashkar started Falafel Inc. in 2017, taking over the former Quick Pita in Georgetown at 1210 Potomac St. NW in DC. The restaurant is a highly-rated place to grab authentic vegetarian falafel, hummus, bowls and sides for single digit prices. Money from each purchase is donated to feed refugees through the World Food Programme.
Falafel Inc. describes itself as the “world’s first falafel fast casual food social enterprise franchise,” with a mission to “eat for good.” Dishes are made fresh daily with all natural ingredients.
Falafel Inc. has locations locally at the Wharf in DC (1140 Main Ave SW) and Tyson’s Corner as well as in Los Angeles and New Jersey. New locations are planned in the U.S. and internationally.
