According to a special use permit application, the creators of Falafel Inc. appear to be considering opening a restaurant in Alexandria.
The owner of the company, Ahmad Ashkar, would not confirm a location is under consideration in Old Town, but his wife’s name is on the permit request filed for 726 King St. The permit request shows the proposed business name as Impact King. It is unclear if the restaurant will be a Falafel Inc. or another type of restaurant. Alexandria's online permit database reveals the new business will sell fresh juice and drinks, salads and sandwiches.
According to paperwork filed with the Virginia State Corporation Commission, Ashkar is managing member of Laadam Family LLC, which is listed as the property owner of 726 King St. on the permit request.
The Falafel Inc. website also listed Old Town Alexandria among its locations, but the listing was removed from the website after Alexandria Living contacted Ashkar for more information.
The building was formerly occupied by Nicecream, which closed in 2021.
Ashkar started Falafel Inc. in 2017, taking over the former Quick Pita in Georgetown at 1210 Potomac St NW in DC. The restaurant is a highly-rated place to grab authentic vegetarian falafel, hummus, bowls and sides for under $5. Money from each purchase is donated to feed refugees through the World Food Programme.
Falafel Inc. describes itself as the “world’s first falafel fast casual food social enterprise franchise,” with a mission to “eat for good.” Dishes are made fresh daily with all natural ingredients.
Falafel Inc. has locations locally at the Wharf in DC (1140 Main Ave SW) and Tyson’s Corner as well as in Los Angeles. New locations are planned for Boston, NYC, Dubai, Amman and Mexico, according to their website and social media accounts.
