Super Bowl Sunday will be the last Sunday in business for Charlie's on the Ave. in Del Ray.
The restaurant opened in the fall of 2018 and is the creation of the team behind Live Oak, also in Del Ray. The team also opened The Garden next to Charlie's in 2019.
Charie's was a family-friendly place with several large-screen televisions and a full-service bar, plus indoor and outdoor seating.
In an interview with Alexandria Living Magazine in September 2019, owners Jeremy Barber and justus Frank said the influence for the name "Charlie's on the Avenue" was Jeremy's grandfather, who "was a huge influence in his life. He was a father figure to him and he always wanted to pay homage to such a great man. Charlie loved sports, good food and people, and that is what Charlie's is all about."
In a Facebook post, the owners wrote:
To our loyal guests and friends,
It saddens us to inform you that Sunday, February 2nd will be the last day of business at Charlie’s on the Avenue. We appreciate all the support you have shown us and continue to show us at our sister restaurants (Live Oak Restaurant & The Garden).
We want to thank our staff for all the hard work and loyalty they have shown. Each of them has become like family to us, and we are forever grateful for their huge contribution to Charlie’s.
As we close Charlie’s a new chapter begins for us at Live Oak. Look for a new menu equipped with some of Charlie’s favorites, a few new looks, and a few familiar faces.
We look forward to seeing each of you at The Garden and Live Oak, where we will continue to put hospitality and neighborhood first. Thank you for your continued patronage.
Sincerely,
Jeremy Barber & Justus Frank
