The bagel chain Call Your Mother (CYM) deli is opening its newest location at 1300 King St. on Thursday, Feb. 22.
Aside from a pop-up shop in a repurposed tiny home in McLean, this will be their first location in Virginia.
The bagel chain, which now has locations around D.C., Maryland and in Denver, Colorado, opened its first shop in 2018.
“It was vividly clear that people in the area really wanted bagels,” said Tim Casey, CYM’s creative director. “Ever since then, we’ve been on a mission to spread the carb-induced love.”
Casey, who has been a part of the CYM team since the beginning, is excited to offer their bagels and coffee to new customers, as well as loyal regulars who previously had to cross the river to get a bagel. CYM is also excited to announce that they are using the ample space in their Old Town location to roast their own coffee beans.
At an opening event with on-the-house coffee and bagels on Tuesday, Casey said the people he works with, relationships and community are what bring him to work — and to Alexandria.
“Whether it's a little kid enamored with the vibrant colors, or giving a dog a treat out front, or blessing someone with a free cookie, just because,” Casey said. “Those little, really human interactions are real gifts and something I definitely cherish.”
Call Your Mother is open from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily. In addition to coffee and bagels, the menu includes a variety of cream cheeses and other toppings, bagel sandwiches and more.
