A new restaurant specializing in French cuisine, steaks and seafood is set to open Jan. 12 in Alexandria at 1725 Duke St. Bistro Sancerre, a French bistro and steakhouse, will feature a wide variety of wines and offer "farm-to-table grassroots style restaurant with locally-sourced produce and fine cheeses."
The eatery, owned by Clifton resident Troy Thorpe, is a "sister property" of Grand Cru Wine Bar & Bistro, a French restaurant in Arlington's Ballston neighborhood.
In addition to a wide selection of steaks and seafood, Sancerre will feature several chef-crafted classical French dishes as well as fondue and crepes. The new full-service eatery will seat 300 — more than 200 inside and 100 outside on its patio and private dining for up to 100.
Entrees will range in price from $14 to $49 (see the complete dinner menu here). Hours of operation are expected to be 11 a.m. to 1 a.m. Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 1 a.m. Saturdays and 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sundays with outdoor dining ending at 11 p.m. The restaurant will also offer carry-out.
The site is a 7,885 square-foot tenant space on the ground floor of a six-story office building, part of a five-building complex that comprises the King Street Station. Stella's Restaurant opened in this location in 1990. The restaurant was approved in 2015 for a beer garden restaurant several years ago that never opened. The space has been vacant the past three years.
Though the subject tenant space has a Duke Street address, the unit is accessed from Reinekers Lane and through a courtyard shared by four of the complex’s buildings. The subject lot has approximate 386 feet of frontage along Duke Street, and 29 feet of frontage along Reinekers Lane.
The site is directly adjacent to the Embassy Suites Hotel and is bordered by the King Street Station buildings to the north. Across Duke Street to the south are additional office buildings and Whole Foods Market. The King Street Metro Station is located 342 feet to the north.
