Several burger joints in Alexandria were among the top 25 best burgers in the April issue of Northern Virginia Magazine. See if you agree!
Here's a peek at the Alexandria restaurants that were top winners and what the magazine had to say:
- Holy Cow's "The Hot Mess" burger was lauded for this Angus beef burger "crowned with gooey mac and cheese, smoky Gouda, bacon and crispy onions. It's finished with sriracha aioli for a smack of heat." The Hot Mess goes for $13.95. Holy Cow, 2312 Mt. Vernon in Del Ray
- District Biscuit Company's "Biscuit Burger" also got a mention in the article. The burger is a "custom-blend Allen Brothers patty that sits between layers of an airy square biscuit that absorbs every tantalizing drop of juice along with housemade hollandaise sauce and pickles. The Biscuit Burger goes for $18.89 (it comes with waffle fries). Another Del Ray eatery, District Biscuit is located at 3401 Mt. Vernon Ave.
- Bun Papa's "Bun Papa Classic" is a "lightly sweet, pillowy brioche bun is at the centerpiece here. It almost doesn't matter what goes on it, but when it's two grill-seared patties, melted cheddar and housemade dill pickles, all the better." The Bun Papa Classic goes for $12.50. Bun Papa is located at 1512 Belle View Blvd. You can also get the Bun Papa Classic with Fries for $18.75 at sister property BeeLiner Diner, 3648 King St. in the Bradlee Shopping Center. (Beeliner Diner earned the Rising Star Award from the Alexandria Chamber of Commerce last fall.)
- WRC-TV morning news anchor Tony Perkins notes in the article that he's a big fan of Five Guys burgers, which got its start up the road in Arlington in 1986. The company moved its headquarters to Alexandria's 1940 Duke St. three years ago; you can grab a Five Guys burger at 725 King St., in Old Town Alexandria.
