Brewski's Barkhaus announced late Wednesday night that it is a few steps closer to opening.
"Introducing DC Metropolitan's first ever "Dog Bar" featuring a restaurant combined with an off-leash indoor and outdoor dog park," the company wrote in an email sent to supporters.
An exact opening date is still to be determined, but 'early this fall' is the plan for the unique venue at 529 E. Howell Ave., just across Richmond Highway from Potomac Yard.
The restaurant side will have a full menu plus beer and wine. The building will include an off-leash dog play area (separated from the restaurant) and off-leash outside playing areas, as well.
Dogs will not be allowed in the restaurant area for sanitation reasons. "We love all animals but must limit to dogs only in our indoor and outdoor off-leash play areas. All dogs planning to attend Barkhaus must be registered members. Stay tuned for more details! "
In an interview with Alexandria Living Magazine last year, co-founder Alex Benbassat said, “Our goal is to provide an alternative to the typical adoption procedure by combining food, drinks, and dogs in a social environment. Whether you are adopting a dog or not, come help socialize the community’s sheltered and fostered dogs that are looking for a future home!”
