Back by popular demand, the Banned Book Speakeasy is returning to The Study at Morrison House in Old Town Alexandria from Tuesday, April 21 to Saturday, April 25 from 5-10 p.m.
For the third time, The Study, a haven for storytelling, is writing another chapter with partner Virginia Library Association to fill its dark academia-inspired shelves and cocktail menu with even more banned books to celebrate the magic of forbidden stories, and support the libraries that keep them alive!
Guests can purchase a $2 timed entry ticket, which will be donated fully to the Virginia Library Association in support of local libraries and librarians. Attendees of the speakeasy can expect:
A banned book inspired cocktail menu, featuring new cocktails and mocktails influenced by some of the most iconic and challenged books in the U.S.
Light bites featuring some of our favorites from The Study's restaurant menu
Creative ordering experience using a secret door and librarian
Last year, we were able to raise almost $4,500, which went towards the Virginia Library Association's Librarian of Color Forum Award, LGBTQIA+ Forum Fund, Scholarship Fund, and more initiatives
The Morrison House Federalist-style building is decorated with a nod to Alexandria’s Colonial past while embracing a modern look featuring every comfort. Guests are welcomed to their “home away from home” with 45 cozy bedrooms, an intimate fireplace and a parlor-style lobby and bar featuring craft cocktails.
A literary touch can be found in the hotel’s library and elegant in-room writing desks in select guest rooms. Morrison House is a block from King Street and only a few blocks away from Alexandria’s waterfront.
Proudly offering genuine, personalized hospitality and warm service, Morrison House has earned its bragging rights as the city’s only AAA four-diamond hotel.
The Study is a Modern American craft cocktail bar and a luxe, intimate gathering place and live piano bar for locals and hotel guests to escape the bustle of King Street. Like a book, The Study tells a story through the lens of its main characters – classic cocktails inspired by literature, complemented by a menu of Modern American dishes inspired by Mesoamerican culinary traditions.
