Amazon Fresh in Franconia, VA.
The Amazon Fresh grocery store in the Festival at Manchester Lakes Shopping Center in Franconia will open on Thursday, May 27, the company has announced.
The grocery store is opening in part of the former Shoppers grocery store, which closed in early 2020.
Amazon describes the shopping experience this way:
"Our checkout-free shopping experience is made possible by the same types of technologies used in self-driving cars: computer vision, sensor fusion, and deep learning. Just Walk Out Technology automatically detects when products are taken from or returned to the shelves and keeps track of them in a virtual cart. When you’re done shopping, you can just leave the store. Later, we’ll send you a receipt and charge your Amazon account. No lines, no checkout. (No, seriously.)"
Amazon is also opening grocery stores in Potomac Yard in the former Shoppers grocery store, and in Baileys Crossroads at 5821 Crossroads Center (next to Staples and Old Navy). Construction on the Baileys Crossroads store is underway now (see photo below). Potomac Yard construction has not started yet.
Hours will be 7 a.m. – 10 p.m. at the Festival at Manchester Lakes Amazon Fresh store, 7005 Manchester Blvd.
