The Amazon Fresh store at Potomac Yard in Alexandria will open July 25, the company announced.
The store, at 3801 Richmond Hwy., takes place of the Shoppers food store, which closed in early 2020. Amazon fresh announced later that year that it had plans to open there, but those plans went on pause in 2023 as Amazon retooled the format and product mix of Amazon Fresh Stores, and reconsidered some of its real estate deals.
In an earnings call in early 2023, Amazon announced it would "pause expansion of Fresh stores to examine the business and see if it resonates with customers," CNBC reported.
This is not Amazon's only grocery store in the Alexandria area. An Amazon Go store opened at Manchester Lakes near Franconia. Another was planned for the Bailey's Crossroads area, but did not open.
Amazon announced earlier this year that it would be proceeding with the Potomac Yard location.
The store is slated to open July 25. One of the unique features of the grocery stores is the ability to avoid long checkout lines with the Amazon Dash Cart.
