The Restaurant Association of Metropolitan Washington announced its nominees Monday, April 14 for the 2025 RAMMYS and three Alexandria businesses are on the list.
The four Alexandria restaurants that made the nomination list this year are Andy's Pizza, Atlas Brew Works, Founding Farmers and Josephine.
Andy's Pizza, which serves up New York-style pizza by the slice, earned a nomination in the Fast Casual Restaurant of the Year category, a new one this year. Andy's Pizza offers two Alexandria locations — one at 107 N. Fayette St. in Old Town and the other at 2429 Mandeville Lane in the Carlyle District.
The Alexandria locations are among 11 for the pizza joint in the DC area. Andy's Pizza started in 2018 with its first location in McLean. It was started by Andy Brown, a Montgomery County, Md. native. Andy’s Pizza has earned many awards over the past few years including winning the title of world champion for best traditional cheese pizza at the 2021 International Pizza Expo in Las Vegas.
Atlas Brew Works, located at 2429 Mandeville Lane in Alexandria, is nominated In the Beer Program of the Year category. The neighborhood production brewery and taproom features four locations across the DC metro area, offering its artisanal beer in a variety of styles. In addition to Alexandria, you'll also find Atlas Brew Works in Ivy City and Navy Yard in DC and at Washington Reagan National Airport.
In the Manager of the Year category, Founding Farmers' Lorena Reyes earned a nomination. The restaurant just recently opened a location in Alexandria, at 461 Swann Ave. in the Potomac Yard area.
While an anonymous group of food writers votes in the above categories, there are several other categories where the public weighs in, and those are in the following five categories: Favorite Gathering Place, Best Brunch, Hottest Sandwich shop, Best Bar and Favorite Fast Bites. Voting, set for May 1-31, is conducted via NBC Washington.
In the Best Brunch category, Alexandrians will have the chance to vote for Josephine, at 109 S. St. Asaph St., a French brasserie located in the heart of Old Town Alexandria. Inspired by classic Parisian eateries, Josephine brings the timeless charm and culinary traditions of France to the local dining scene. See the brunch menu here.
Andy's Pizza is also nominated in the Favorite Fast Bites category.
Washingtonian Magazine notes "restaurants that aren’t dues-paying members of RAMW can only be nominated for those publicly voted categories... This excludes many DC-area restaurants from consideration for the big-ticket categories like new restaurant of the year and chef of the year."
