Local Mexican restaurants are offering specials on guac and tacos Friday in honor of Cinco de Mayo.
The holiday celebrates the Mexican military's 1862 victory over France in a major battle during the Franco-Mexican War. It is also known as Battle of Puebla Day.
"While it is a relatively minor holiday in Mexico, in the United States, Cinco de Mayo has evolved into a commemoration of Mexican culture and heritage," according to the History Channel.
