Principle Gallery 208 King Street , Alexandria, Virginia 22314
You’ve listened to Classical WETA’s Nicole Lacroix on the radio. Now meet her in person at the Principle Gallery in Old Town on Saturday, November 28, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., when she reads ‘Slaters Lane,’ a mystery set in Old Town Alexandria.
Lacroix narrates the audiobook version of the legal thriller written by local author and attorney John Adam Wasowicz. Both Lacroix and Wasowicz will be signing copies of the book at Principle Gallery, 208 King Street.
‘Slaters Lane’ has been added to an array of products currently available through Made in ALX at www.madeinalx.com. The website includes the Mo Katz trilogy, along with products from local artists for gifts and housewares for the holiday season.
The Principle Gallery event is being held in conjunction with Alexandria Shop Small Week in Alexandria, when residents are encouraged to support local stores and boutiques in Old Town, many of whom have endured trying times during the COVID-19 pandemic. Alexandria Shop Small Week is an opportunity to show support for the D.C. region’s largest destination for independent boutiques with 10 days and two weekends of deals, promotions and Instagram giveaways.
Although Principle Gallery provides a large open space for the book reading, strict safety standards will be enforced. Masks must be required to be worn and visitors will maintain 6 feet of separation from one another.
Lacroix and Wasowicz will discuss their collaborative effort and offer tips about how to successfully undertake an artistic project while coping with COVID-19.
“Hosting a classical music program is about storytelling,” explained Lacroix. “Performers often say they imagine scenarios to illustrate the music they're playing, and composers throughout history have been a fascinating set of characters — and then there's opera, if you're into tall tales. As a result, I love stories and interesting characters, and bringing them to life is such fun.”
‘Slaters Lane’ features Mo Katz, the fictional U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia. The story recounts a criminal investigation in April 2020 in which virtual searches, online interviews, and other techniques are used to solve a crime in the midst of the pandemic.
‘Slaters Lane’ is the third book in the Mo Katz mystery series launched by Wasowicz in 2019. Earlier books include ‘Daingerfield Island’ and ‘Jones Point.’ The books are set in Alexandria and incorporate familiar settings in fictional scenes.
