Shoreline Engineering - Celebrating Virginia Archaeology Month
to
Barca Pier at Robinson Landing 7 Pioneer Mill Way, Alexandria, Virginia 22314
Test your 18th-century engineering skills! It wasn’t easy for tall ships to reach Alexandria’s natural shoreline. New land was created in the 18th and 19th century to reach the deep water at the current site of Robinson Landing. Can you figure out a way to make new land without having it wash away into the Potomac? Things might get messy! This walk-up activity is for all ages. Archaeologists will also be on site with information about the archaeology at Robinson Landing and the evidence of land-making found there.
