Design for a Living Room by Edgard Sforzina
Two years before the French exposition that gave rise to the Art Deco movement, Edgard Sforzina planted the roots of French Art Deco in the United States when he immigrated to the United States. In his 20 year career in America, he designed George Gershwin's famous Art Deco Riverside Drive apartment, interiors for the iconic Cincinnati Union Terminal, and many private residences and commercial interiors. He also designed a wide range of products and interiors including clocks, lamps, wood and metal furniture as well as complete living room, dining room, and bedroom sets. As an architect, he designed mid-century homes. The Art Deco Society of Washington, working with Sforzina's granddaughter, put together the first retrospective on Sforzina's short but impressive career in America. Admission is free with admission to the Modernism Show April 30th and May 1 and with admission to the George Washington Masonic National Memorial from May 2 through July 9th.
