Ever wonder how artists create such intricate designs on blown eggs?
The first Alexandria Pysanky Party and Fundraiser is set for March 23 at Made in ALX in Old Town North. RSVP for the fundraiser here. Admission is free.
Alexandria-based The Critical Mass, LLC and local Ukrainian-American artists are partnering on a fundraiser for the nonprofit organization Razom for Ukraine.
The party and fundraiser will be from 5 - 8 p.m. and include bites and sips (Lost Boy Cider will pour), shopping, the debut of new pysanky and the chance to watch pysanky being created in the traditional beeswax-and-dye method.
Stephanie Malm Cheeseman (@pysankysteph) and other artists are creating pysanky, or symbolically decorated eggs, and selling them to help fund humanitarian relief for families displaced by the war in Ukraine through Razom for Ukraine.
The pysanky, informally called Ukrainian Easter Eggs, are available for purchase online and at Made in ALX, 533 Montgomery St., in Alexandria’s Old Town North neighborhood now.
85% of pysanky sales all month at Made in ALX go to Razom for Ukraine. In addition, 10% of all other sales will be donated to the nonprofit during the Pysanky Party on March 23.
