Plaid Friday in Alexandria: Shop Small, Score Big
to
Alexandria’s Small Business Black Friday returns for another holiday season to highlight and celebrate Alexandria’s iconic array of independent businesses.
Known as the top destination for locally owned retail, more than 50 participating businesses are asking customers to shift their shopping this holiday season by kicking off Black Friday shopping at Alexandria boutiques for steals and deals on Friday, November 29.
While many are familiar with the post-Thanksgiving shopping frenzy known as Black Friday, Old Town Alexandria has its own tradition - Plaid Friday. Since its launch in 2009 by Danielle Romanetti of fibre space, Plaid Friday has been embraced in Old Town Alexandria as a more relaxed alternative than shopping mainstream stores on Black Friday. This day originally started in Oakland, CA, aimed to encourage shoppers to support locally owned and independent businesses during the holiday season. Plaid Friday was inspired by weaving together the unique threads of small businesses to celebrate the diversity and creativity of independent shops.
Plaid Friday is designed to celebrate Alexandria as the top destination for locally-owned retail in the DMV. Several participating businesses will open at 6:00 a.m., including:
Bellacara
Bloomers
Boxwood
Era
Made in ALX
Monday’s Child
Pacers Running
Penny post
Pink and Brown
Pippin Toy Co.
Red Barn Mercantile
Sarah Campbell
These businesses will offer discounts to early customers who want to beat the crowds and embrace the spirit of shopping small.
Other boutiques will offer Black Friday steals and deals throughout the day. Shoppers can expect a festive atmosphere, and exclusive offers, and discover unique stores that define Old Town’s signature plaid vibes. Plaid Friday is proudly sponsored by Lauen Bishop of McEnearney Associates.
