Celebrate the November release of Book 9 of Diana Gabaldon's beloved Outlander series with an Outlandish Tour of the Apothecary Museum. Tour this historic apothecary and learn about a few of the herbal medicines featured in Diana Gabaldon’s Outlander series of novels, from cascara to dauco seeds. The tour also touches on the role of apothecaries and women in medicine in the 18th century. Recommended for ages 18 and up.
Cost is $15 per person and advance purchase of tickets is required. Tickets are available through AlexandriaVa.Gov/Shop.
Each tour will have a 10-person capacity. Current City of Alexandria COVID policies will be in effect; masks are required in all City of Alexandria facilities regardless of vaccination status.
About the Stabler-Leadbeater Apothecary Museum: The Stabler-Leadbeater Apothecary Museum is noted for its outstanding collection of medicinal herbs, shop furnishings, and apothecary bottles and equipment. Most of its collection is original to the 141-year-old family business, reflecting how medicine, the business, and Alexandria changed through the centuries. It also has a spectacular collection of archival materials, including journals, letters and diaries, prescription and formula books, ledgers, orders, and invoices.
The Apothecary Museum is located at 105-107 South Fairfax Street in Old Town Alexandria and is owned and operated by the City of Alexandria as part of the Office of Historic Alexandria.
