Fire and Water Event to Support the Hose Reel Carriage
City of Alexandria
-----
Take advantage of a rare opportunity to see Alexandria’s recently excavated ship timbers and a Civil-War era fire fighting steam pumper in one tour! Children are welcome to climb into fire trucks and take a free fire helmet home.
Calling all history and archaeology fans! You are invited to see the 18th-century ship timbers excavated from Robinson Terminal South last year, as well as the restored Civil War era steam pumper owned by the Alexandria Fire Department. Tour proceeds will support the restoration of the 1858 Prettyman Fire Hose Reel Carriage, recently voted Virginia’s Top Endangered Artifact.
This family-friendly event will have hands-on activities and tours of historic and modern fire vehicles, as well as a behind-the-scenes viewing of the ship timbers found on the Waterfront in Robinson Terminal South. Don’t miss this extremely rare chance to see both artifacts at the same time! Reserve your timed ticket here.
After you reserve your tour time, please consider a minimum donation of $10 per person/$25 per family to the Historic Alexandria - Friendship Firehouse Hose Carriage Restoration Effort at Spring2ACTion. Donations can be made on-site.
Tours take place at 116 S. Quaker Lane - the Old Dash Bus Facility. Your ticket will be at the will-call table at the entrance to the site. Please wear long pants and sensible closed-toed shoes. No parking on site, however, there is street parking nearby.
