Planes, trains, and automobiles -- and also ferries, canal boats, cargo ships, wagons, bicycles, streetcars, and feet -- all shaped Alexandria's development as a city. Which automobile manufacturer used to have a factory in Old Town? Which U.S. president once took the ferry to Alexandria and then walked back to the White House? How did the Wilkes Street Tunnel contribute to Alexandria's strategic importance during the Civil War? Come find out on this free walk, organized by the Alexandria Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee.
The walk will take place on Saturday, May 21 at 9:30 a.m. We'll start in Waterfront Park and cover about 1.3 miles in Old Town: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/39271193. All are welcome, including families with strollers. Well-behaved dogs on leashes are welcome too!
