The City of Alexandria is updating its Transportation Master Plan and is seeking input from residents on how they get around town.
In a Facebook post Monday, the City of Alexandria’s Transportation & Environmental Services noted that most people didn’t even have smart phones the last time the mobility plan was updated back in 2008. It's getting a new name, too.
“Life before dockless mobility, ride shares and only a small segment of pioneer smart phone users out there—that is the last time (the year 2008) that the City updated its Transportation Master Plan. So much has changed since then, we're changing the name too: Alexandria Mobility Plan. As this strategic update is developed, staff would like your input on where priorities should be in getting around Alexandria. Complete the survey by Aug. 15, found here: alexandriava.gov/MobilityPlan.”
The survey asks residents about their ideal vision for mobility, the biggest challenges facing mobility in Alexandria and how residents get around most often.
“The AMP team is working with the public to update the vision and goals, objectives, and priority strategies to help guide City staff and policy makers on important decisions related to transportation over the next 5 to 10 years,” according to city officials.
From the survey page, residents can also drop a pin on an interactive map to help city officials understand what streets are great for walking, biking, playing and more, creating a fuller understanding of how residents use streets aside from driving on them.
Following this survey period over the fall and winter, city officials (with resident’s input) will generate ideas. A preview of recommendations will be available sometime in the first half of 2020.
