West End Village
Located a few minutes away from the nostalgic Landmark Mall, West End Village is the place to enjoy great dining and quick errands. The center's longevity within the Alexandria area has built long-lasting relationships and provided a sense of home to the surrounding community. Driven by local small business owners with passion, purpose, and dedication, West End Village continues to make its mark on the Northern Virginia area.
Mediterranean Bakery is a great example of what passion and dedication look like in starting a business and building a legacy. When asked about his inspiration to start the bakery, Owner Abdullah Alsawaaf states “I’ve been baking since I was 8 years old. My dad has a bakery back home in Jerusalem, so I love it." Many may be surprised by how much the bakery has to offer. With loads of options, like their cannoli’s, cream puffs, and pistachio baklava, you can get a taste of the Middle East right in your backyard! Alsawaaf says, “I want the community to come and try the food. We have the best hummus in the whole world. We make a lot of pies, fresh pita bread, ready meals hot and fresh to go as well. We also have a café so you can sit and eat here. We do French pastries, wedding cakes, and all occasion cakes.”
Another small business located in West End Village whose success has been driven by integrity and honor is Wiygul Automotive. “We offer bumper-to-bumper automotive maintenance and repairs. Everything from engine replacements to oil changes, we offer bodywork and detailing as well, it is "your one-stop-shop for anything automotive,” says manager David Krukowski. He shares with us the secret formula to all their achievements. “We are honest, and we’ve been in business for over 45 years. Our motto of never lie, cheat, or steal has been one of our core values. We also offer something called “neighbors in need” where we do free or significantly discounted auto-repairs.”
Young Un, the owner of the popular Alexandria dry cleaners “Kings Cleaners” credits his love for the community as his reasoning for choosing West End Village as their location. “I love this community. It’s really good”. King’s cleaners have been a fixture in the community for more than 30 years. Their services include dry cleaning, alterations, leather shoe repairs, and more!
City Kitchen has also made its mark at West End Village with its fresh take on American cuisine and modern design. With over 200 different beers and wines, like wheat beer, classic beer, as well as a variety of red and white wines, there are many choices to complement your meal. From their eight-ounce Angus beef city burger to the infamous scallops and pork belly, you are in for excellent food and dining experience. Restaurant manager Shawn McKee wants the community to know that they are a hidden gem. He states, “we are six years into the West Side.” The restaurant has a variety of cocktails to offer which includes their “Smoke Manhattan," "An Alexandria Affair,” and their “Peachy Palmer.”
Overall, West End Village provides a space for small businesses to grow and thrive. From cuisine full of flavor to essential services, West End Village has everything you need to get the job done. To learn more about West End Village, its services, and delicious food, visit shopwestendvillage.com.
