Wegmans has signed a lease to build an 84,000 square- foot store in Alexandria at Hoffman Town Center, located on the Eisenhower Avenue exit off I-495, according to store spokeswoman Valerie Fox.
The popular grocery store will anchor a 1-million square foot mixed-use project on 5 acres, according to Bethesda-based developer StoneBridgeCarras. Construction is expected to begin in 2019 with a store opening set for 2021.The bulk of the store will sit on the second floor of the development.
"We continue growing in this region and attribute that growth to focusing on the things that set us apart — our people, our quality and consistent low prices," Fox said. "In fact, we’re actively hiring and training full-time employees for a new store that will open in Chantilly in mid-2018. Because we promote from within, this is an incredible time to build a career at Wegmans with many growth opportunities available."
"Landing Wegmans is perfect for the area, and their willingness to locate on the second floor will really make the street environment perfect," StonebridgeCarras principal Doug Firstenberg said in a release.
Wegmans has been named one of the "100 Best Companies to Work For" by FORTUNE magazine for 20 consecutive years, ranking #2 in 2017.
In addition to the Chantilly store opening, Wegmans has plans to open a store at Tysons, at Capital Beltway and Route 123. Wegmans opened its Hilltop Village Center store in the Hayfield area in June 2015.
